recordists gathered sounds world-wide and the resulting collage was aired on
National Public Radio and at various performances for Sound Culture 96 in

Day of Sound 96
Day of Sound 96 is a collaborative sound work composed of naturally-occuring sounds from the Pacific Rim and beyond. Sound designer and composer C. Jason Reinier coordinated over 50 recordists worldwide to record ambient sounds in their locales on Feb. 17, 1996.
"There are millions of great sound moments everyday. Once we start listening for them, life for our ears becomes much more interesting," Reinier says. "Day of Sound" captures some of the sonic moments of a single day and organizes them chronologically. The result is an earful: a globetrotting sonic journey through a day of sound. The piece was produced with support from the Oakland, CA-based Nature Sounds Society and Sound Culture '96.
An 8-minute version of Day of Sound 96 that was originally aired on NPR's "All Things Considered" can be heard at

SOUND ENTHUSIASTS AND RECORDISTS:
CALL FOR RECORDINGS FOR "DAY OF SOUND 2000"
WHAT: Help create "DAY OF SOUND 2000"
WHEN: Noon Dec. 31, 1999 to noon Jan. 1, 2000
HOW: Record sounds and submit on DAT, CD or cassette to:
C. Jason Reinier
Earprint Productions

San Francisco, CA 94110
"Day of Sound 2000" will be a sound portrait of the transition to a new millenium made up of specific recordings made on the same day by a crew of recordists all over the world. Sound designer/composer/radio producer C. Jason Reinier is producing the second-ever Day of Sound. Interested sound recordists should go out and record sounds between 12:00 noon Dec. 31, 1999 and 12:00 noon, Jan. 1, 2000, and send recordings to C. Jason Reinier at Earprint Productions. The recordings will be previewed and mixed into a seamless sound piece by organizing the individual recordings chronologically over the span of the day. This is the second Day of Sound Reinier has produced. The first, a sound portrait of February 17, 1996, was excerpted on National Public Radio's "All Things Considered" and also aired on radio stations around the world. It can be heard at
www.nytimes.com. (Click "The Sound Capsule")
Individual recorded submissions should be 1 to 2 minutes in length. Each entry should be slated on tape by the recordist giving the recordist's name, the location, specific time (in your time zone - include A.M./ P.M.), and a brief description of the sound. This slate will be included in the final work. Any sound is fair game, as long as its occurance is natural. Some of the sounds in Day of Sound '96 included a coffeemaker, a baby taking a bath, San Francisco's "wave organ", a Zurich funhouse, a New Zealand Kea bird, crickets and frogs, street musicians, the Tokyo subway...you get the idea. The primary goal of the piece is to create a sonic picture of a day from a variety of different "sonic viewpoints". The New York Times has invited Reinier to submit the entire piece for possible inclusion in their Time Capsule project for preservation for the next millennium.
Please submit sounds recorded bet. noon Dec. 31 '99 and noon Jan. 1, 2000 on DAT, CD or cassette no later than Feb 1, 2000 to: Earprint Productions, 662 Anderson Street, San Francisco, CA 94110. Please do not email sounds. Sounds will be used for Day of Sound 2000 projects only. For further information please contact Jason Reinier at,
jason@earprint.com.
